Polyquat is non-foaming and contains no metals, so it cannot stain a plaster or vinyl surface the way a copper algaecide can. Add it at closing and it stays active in the water through the months when nothing is circulating and nothing is being tested, which is exactly when algae gets its foothold. A green opening costs far more in shock, labor, and filter runtime than a gallon of algaecide does.
