Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
This cover O-ring seals the strainer lid to the strainer housing on the Ultra-Flow pump, preventing air from entering the suction side of the system. A degraded or flattened O-ring allows air ingestion, which reduces prime and can cause the pump to lose flow. Match the part number on your existing O-ring before ordering.

Inspect this O-ring every season and replace it if it shows any flattening, cracking, or tackiness a failed cover O-ring is a common cause of air bubbles in the return lines. Before installation, apply a thin coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant to help the O-ring seat evenly and extend its service life. Never use petroleum-based lubricants they will degrade Buna-N rubber.
